Vitus Bering

Vitus Bering (1681 — 1741), full name Vitus Jonassen Bering, was a Danish navigator and explorer. He led several Russian expeditions to find out whether there was any land connection between the two continents Asia and North America. He found a strait and a sea, which are named after him the Bering Strait and the Bering Sea.
