Bird pepper

Bird pepper is the name of a small, red, and very hot fruit, and also the plant that bears it. The variety of a small hot pepper grown in Asia and Africa is also known by this name. A tropical American plant believed to be the ancestor of both the sweet and chili peppers is also called bird pepper. Its botanical name is Capsicum annuum var. glabriusculum or Capsicum frutescens var. typicum, and belongs to the family Solanaceae.
