Bird of paradise

Bird of paradise is a tropical Australasian bird. Most of its kinds are found in New Guinea. Male birds of paradise is known for its remarkable plumage both in beauty an brilliance, and also spectacular display during courtship with female kind. Its feathers are used in ornamental dress. It belongs to the family Paradisaeidae. Several genera of this bird are also found.

'Bird of paradise' is also a flower native to southern Africa and also the plant that bears it. The flowers are showy and irregular having a long projecting tongue. The plant is related to the banana. The flower derives its name from its being resembling the bird of paradise in flight. The flower belongs to the genus Strelitzia, and the family Strelitziaceae. Several species are found including the notable Strelitzia regina bearing orange and dark blue flowers.

In astronomy, the constellation Apus is also known as bird of paradise.
