Captain Manby

Captain Manby (1765-1854), full name Captain George William Manby, was an English militia officer, author, and inventor, born in Norfolk. He was inventor of the apparatus for saving shipwrecked persons, and by means of which he saved the lives of nearly a thousand persons himself.
