Christian Lassen

Christian Lassen (1800 – 1876) was an eminent German orientalist and Indologist, born at Bergen in Norway. He studied Pâli with Burnouf in Paris, became professor of Indian Languages and Literature in Bonn, contributed largely to our knowledge of cuneiform inscriptions, and wrote, among other works, an epoch-making work titled "Indische Alterthumskunde."
