Ground Water
Ground water is the body of water in the ground, accumulated above impermeable layers that completely fills the pore space to a level whose depth below the surface varies from place to place and, generally from time to time. The water occurring in the subsurface zone where all spaces are filled with water under pressure greater than that of the atmosphere.Water found underground as a result of rainfall, ice and snow melt, submerged rivers, lakes, and springs is also called ground water, as opposed to surface water which is found on the surface of the Earth. Ground water often carries minerals which can accumulate in the remains of buried organisms and eventually cause fossilization.
