Groundwater
Groundwater is a word formed by compounding two words - ground and water. It is a permanent compound, such as used in the expression 'Department of Groundwater'. These two words are also sometimes temporarily compounded with hyphen in between as modifier, such as ground-water hydrology.Nevertheless, one word 'groundwater' is also being increasingly used for the traditionally correct term 'ground water', though the term 'surface water' is never compounded.
