Krishna

Krishna is a district of the State of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is located between Latitude 15° 43’ N - 17° 10’ N and Longitude 80° 0’ - 81° 33’ of E. The area of the district is 8,727 sq km with 88 km of coast line. It is bounded in the East by Bay of Bengal and West Godavari district, in the West by Guntur and Nalgonda districts, in the North by Khammam district and in the South by the Bay of Bengal. The district has a population of 45,29,009 as per census 2011.

Krishna district was one of the oldest British administrated areas of Andhra Pradesh. It was formerly called Masulapatnam district and in 1859 when the then Guntur district was abolished, certain taluks thereof were added to this district which was renamed as Krishna district, after the mighty river Krishna.
