Sir Colin Campbell
Sir Collin Campbell (1792-1863), Lord Clyde, was an English soldier, born in Glasgow, son of a carpenter named Macliver. He entered the army, and rose rapidly. He served in China and the Punjab in India, and also commanded the Highland Brigade in the Crimea. He won the day at Alma and Balaclava. He commanded in India during the Mutiny and relieved Lucknow, and quelled the rebellion. He was made field-marshal, with a pension of £2000, and created Lord Clyde. He was one of the bravest soldiers of England.Nearby pages
