St Alexander Nevsky

St Alexander Nevsky ( c.1220-63), also Nevski, born Aleksandr Yaroslavich, is one of the saints of the Russian Church. He was grand-duke of Russia, prince of Novgorod (1236-63). He conquered the Swedes, the Danes, and the Teutonic Knights on the banks of the Neva River in 1240. St Nevsky freed Russia from tribute to the Mongols. Principal Feast Day - November 23, Second Feast Day August 30.
