The Asuras

The Asuras were a class of divine beings in the Vedic period as opposed to the Devas. In Hindu mythology, they are portrayed as the demons of the darkness of night, in overcoming whom the Devas (gods) asserted their sovereignty in the universe. In the Indian mythology they tend to be evil, but in Zoroastrianism they are benevolent.
