The Bahamas

The Bahamas is an archipelago off the southeastern coast of Florida. It is situated in the northwestern West Indies in the Caribbean region. The archipelago forms the country Bahamas. The Bahamas is a group of over 500 low, flat coral islands, and thousands of rocks. They belonged to Britain from 18th century after the English colonized the archipelago, of which 20 are inhabited, and on one of which Columbus landed when he discovered America. He first landed in the New World on October 12, 1492. It remained a British colony until 1973 when Bahamas became an independent country within the Commonwealth of Nations.
