Thomas the Rhymer

Thomas the Rhymer (fl. c. 1220 – 1298), also True Thomas, Thomas of Ercildoune, or Earlston was a reputed Scottish prophet from Earlston in the Borders. He was a laird and Berwickshire notability of the 13th century. He was famous for his rhyming prophecies, who was said, in return for his prophetic gift, to have sold himself to the fairies.
