William Baffin

William Baffin (1584-1622) was an English navigator and explorer. He was an early English Arctic explorer, who was pilot of several expeditions in search of Northwest Passage during 1612-16. He discovered the largest island of the Canadian Arctic in 1616 which is named Baffin Island after him. He also discovered the strait between it and Greenland when acting as pilot to an expedition in quest of the Northwest Passage, which is also named Baffin Bay after him.
