Ever since Kamal Nath became the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh with the blessings of Sonia Gandhi he has been feeling uneasy in the Congress. Enjoying the trust of Rahul Gandhi he nursed the feeling that Nath cannot be his boss and rule over him. Like other Congress leaders who switched their loyalties to the BJP, Scindia has his basic right to join the BJP or any other party of his choice.

Earlier this month, India was made an observer of the Indian Ocean Commission, recognizing India’s dominant role in the Indian Ocean. The Commission, set up in 1982, has on it Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoros, Seychelles and the Reunion Island. Four countries have observers’ status – the European Union, the International Union of La Francophonic (OIF) and two Asian nations – China and Malta. Now India, too, has been admitted to it.
