INDIA-USA RELATIONS WILL UNDERGO SOME TWISTS IF BIDEN WINS

A RELOOK AT CHINA AND QUAD MIGHT BE IMPERATIVE UNDER A NEW PRESIDENT
Arun Srivastava - 2020-11-03 10:29
The eighth round of bilateral talks between China and India is likely to take place once the result for the USA presidential election is announced. It is the outcome of the election that will define the nature of the relation between the two countries. If the present mood of the electorates are any indicator, then it can be safely presumed that Joe Biden would be the next president of the USA. With Biden as the new ruler, America will witness many significant changes and reforms in the policies and programmes being followed. The most important that is likely to take place is changing the character and orientation of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad).

PMO SENDING MAILS FOR CONTRIBUTING FUNDS TO BJP IS NO SURPRISE

CENTRE HAS BEEN USING AGENCIES TO BOLSTER SAFFRONS MONEY POWER
Nitya Chakraborty - 2020-11-03 10:26
The revelation in the investigation carried out by The Quint that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has sent e mails in a roundabout manner requesting the users of the PMO’s official ID Sampark.gov.in for contribution to BJP funds, may seem highly unethical and violating all norms of separating government from the ruling Party, but foe the BJP leadership, this sort of using official agencies for party purposes, has become most natural in the last six years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule.

IMPUNITY TO KILLERS OF JOURNALISTS IN INDIA FIGURES IN UNESCO REPORT

39 KILLINGS SINCE 2006, 22 SINCE 2014, NO CASE RESOLVED
Gyan Pathak - 2020-11-03 10:18
Safety of journalists and the danger of impunity for crime against journalists has been highlighted in the UNESCO’s Director Generals report that mentions 39 killings of journalists in India since 2006, 22 of them occurred since 2014, no case was resolved, and no information was sent to them regarding the ‘status of judicial enquiries on the killing of journalists’ on their request to the Government of India. Globally, 13 per cent of cases involving crimes against journalists were reported “as resolved”, in comparison to 12 per cent in 2019, and 11 per cent in 2018. India’s dismal performance on safety of journalists is obvious.

ONLY 36 COUNTRIES HAVE NOT CRIMINALISED MARITAL RAPE

INDIA HAS TO TAKE ADEQUATE STEPS IN THIS DIRECTION
Anusha Agrawal - 2020-11-03 09:38
The past few years have witnessed the growth of Indian judicial decisions towards a more liberal and open mindset of a changing society. Such decisions show how the country is moving away from the shackles of a medieval India to a society where everyone’s rights are protected.

CENTRAL TRADE UNIONS PREPARING FOR GENERAL STRIKE ON NOVEMBER 26

WORKERS ARE JOINTLY CHALLENGING MODI GOVT’S ANTI-LABOUR POLICIES
Sukumar Damle - 2020-11-03 09:33
On October 31, 2020, the AITUC turned 100. Barely a month later, the workers all over India have decided to stop working on November 26, 2020 for a day. This decision was taken at a National Convention of Workers — online for the first time — on October 2, 2020, the Gandhi Jayanti Day. The convention was organised jointly by AITUC, INTUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, AICCTU, UTUC, TUCC, LPF, SEWA. This itself is a strong message of unity. That the convention was held online, shows that the pandemic restrictions are not going to hold the trade unions back. Choosing the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti was also deliberate to show that we value the Mahatma's message of social harmony.

Mark Gruenberg - 2020-11-02 11:19
Central Labor Councils in Rochester, New York, Seattle, and Western Massachusetts have issued calls for a general strike should Republican White House occupant Donald Trump steal the November 3 election by dubious means including judicial intervention by rightwing Supreme Court.
