THE WAY JUDICIARY HAS BEEN TAMED

M.Y. Siddiqui - 2020-07-16 04:28
India has witnessed the most degrading, serious and long lasting assault on the Republic in taming of the judiciary during the last six years since 2014. There has been a concerted attempt by the NDA Union Government to erode the independence of the judiciary, some of which has succeeded. Even after the attempt to bring back the executive in to the role of selecting judges of the higher judiciary (High Courts and the Supreme Court of India) through the Judicial Appointments Commission having been scuttled by the SCI, it has been seen the current Union Government has been rejecting willfully appointments from minorities who have borne the brunt of assault by the government.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROGRAMME NEEDS MUCH MORE
Gyan Pathak - 2020-07-15 10:28
COVID-19 has placed India’s already ailing MSME sector in a precarious condition. Majority of 6.33 crores of micro, small, and medium enterprises are facing the question of survival. World Bank’s MSME Emergency Response programme of $750 million, says that it will be addressing the immediate liquidity and credit needs of some 1.5 million viable MSMEs to help them withstand the impact of the current shock and protect millions of jobs. The Government of India had announced a special package of Rs 3 lakh crore for the same purpose. However, these are too little to overcome the crisis in the sector that has been suffering since demonetization in November 2016. Even before the outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown on March 24, millions of MSMEs have already been shut down, and million others were struggling for survival.

As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, reports of domestic violence upsurging all over the world is worrying. The pervasive spread of the virus has forced domestic violence victims to stay at home with their abusers, leaving them with little options to find any shelter or even solace.
