Victor Grossman - 2019-08-01 19:55

Floods in Bihar do not only bring thousands of cusecs of rain water from the catchment areas of Nepal.. Instead it brings billions of institutional finance and government fund for the vested interests and particularly for the contractors and bureaucrats. The officers prefer postings in the flood prone areas of the north Bihar.

Dr Arun Mitra - 2019-08-01 19:48
The passage of National Medical Commission (NMC) bill in the Lok Sabha on July 29, 2019 will always be a black day in the India’s healthcare history. No doubt the Medical Council of India (MCI) had lost its credibility, more so after the exposure of corrupt practices by it’s the then president Dr Ketan Desai. There were several reports of connivance of some higher-ups in the medical council with the private medical colleges.

BJP SHOULD HAVE OPTED FOR FRESH POLL IN KARNATAKA

SAFFRONS WILL POLITICALLY SUFFER IN THE LONG RUN
Sagarneel Sinha - 2019-08-01 19:42
Finally, B.S. Yediyurappa of the BJP became the chief minister of Karnataka for the fourth time. Since the formation of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government led by H.D. Kumaraswamy of JD(S) last year after the assembly polls failed to give a clear verdict to any party, Yediyurappa has been anxiously waiting to occupy the post of the chief minister. And, eventually, Yediyurappa, party's tallest leader coming from the powerful Lingayat community, succeeded and saffronised Karnataka — the only south Indian state in BJP’s kitty.

OPPOSITION DIES A ‘LARGER THAN LIFE’ DEATH

RAJYA SABHA NUMBERS REDUCED TO MERE TECHNICALITY
K Raveendran - 2019-08-01 19:40
The plight of Congress is worse than that of a coward who the Bard says dies a thousand deaths before he actually dies. The grand old party of Nehru and Gandhi seems to be suffering from a strange death wish, a death that has larger than life proportions.

SUPREME COURT DIRECTIVE ON LYNCHING IS A WELCOME MOVE

STATE GOVERNMENTS HAVE TO ENSURE VIGOROUS IMPLEMENTATION
Amritananda Chakravorty - 2019-08-01 19:30
On 27thJuly, 2019, a retired army captain, Amanullah, was beaten to death in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, for no reason, except that he had a small skirmish with his alleged assaulters few hours back. This is the 55th case of mob lynching/violence in the country, after Modi 2.0 government has come to power, i.e., any case of violence almost every day in the last two months. It has become an epidemic throughout the country, where the mobs egged on by the political dispensation is out to assault/lynch anyone, who looks or seems, even remotely, Muslim in the name of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. As the recent letter written by 49 intellectuals to the Prime Minister NarendraModi stated, ‘Jai Shri Ram” has been reduced to a “provocative war cry that leads to law and order problems, and many lynchings take place in its name”. Even as I am writing this article.

PANIC GRIPS BJP LEADERSHIP IN MADHYA PRADESH

MORE AND MORE LEGISLATORS ARE WOOING KAMAL NATH
L.S. Herdenia - 2019-08-01 18:57
BHOPAL: If reports published in the local newspapers provide any indication, there is a panic like situation in the state BJP. Blame game has started in the party. Among all local leaders the accusing finger is being raised against leader of opposition Gopal Bhargava. There is every possibility that a demand may be made for the removal of Bhargava. Bhargava was never considered to be a astute leader. Many in the BJP are still of the view that Bhargava is not a proper choice for the opposition leader at this crucial period. He is known for provocative utterances. Years back a woman Congress legislator hurled Chappal at him when he made some objectionable remark during the Vidhan Sabha proceedings.
