The results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections have come as a big shock to the Left movement of the country, especially to the two major communist parties of the country CPI and the CPI(M).In the 17th Lok Sabha, the CPI will have only two members while the CPI(M) will have three members- a total of five out of 542 elected members of the new Lok Sabha. Out of these five seats, only one seat from Kerala has been won by the CPI(M) on the basis of the Left block’s own strength, the other four seats from Tamil Nadu have been won courtesy the alliance with the DMK.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has bucked the national trend again. This time, the State has, in the company of neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Punjab, bucked the Modi wave which washed across the better part of India.

LUCKNOW: Modi wave has swept Uttar Pradesh with the help of nationalism, communal polarisation and weak opposition. Modi wave has succeeded in giving lead in 60 seats out of total 80 seats. It may be noted that BJP had won 71 seats and two by alliance partner Apna Dal in 2014 elections.

The exit polls were by far not wrong. But lots went wrong for the opposition. One, appears like despite a 45 year record low unemployment, Indian youth, the majority of them, do not want jobs! Despite all the hue and cry, jobs were not an election issue. Why? Could be because there were jobs available that were not among the counted. Maybe self-employment really took off in a big way. Even otherwise, by “jobs” people usually allude to “sarkari” jobs and those seeking government jobs are mostly who already have jobs.

BHOPAL: It is a total rout for Congress in Madhya Pradesh. It is worse than 2014. In 2014 Congress won two seats out of 29 but it is destined to win only one this time if the current trend continues. Even Jyotiraditya Scindia will not be able to enter Lok Sabha. If Scindia finally looses it will be for the first time that a member of Scindia family will taste defeat.

Now it is no more a secret. The cat is out of the bag. The BJP has got absolute majority in the Lok Sabha elections. Once again Narendra Modi would be the prime minister of the country. The opposition call to the voters, the so called conscience keepers of the nation, has fallen on deaf years. The exercise to trace out the reasons and fix the responsibility have already started.

What is remarkable about Narendra Modi’s triumph is that none of the factors which were expected to undermine his position has had any effect on the popular support for him.

Presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren recently made waves after she announced her idea to eliminate student loan debt and make all public colleges free. The plan would hypothetically cancel student loan debt for more than 95 per cent of borrowers, and would entirely cancel student loan debt for more than 75 per cent of Americans. The public reception has been quite positive, as might be expected, considering Americans now collectively owe more than $1.53 trillion in student loan debt.

Leading Democrats used a meeting of their party’s leadership team on Monday night to push Speaker Nancy Pelosi to allow the House Judiciary Committee to begin an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. One of their main arguments, was that it will allow them to obtain documents and testimony the president has thus far been able to block.

The foreign Press seems to be taking seriously a newly acquired role – that of warning the world that Narendra Modi for all his hugs and business-friendly aura is the next thing to Hitler and gullible Indians, thoroughly fooled by this megalomaniac, have given the reins of their country to this sectarian figure all over again. ‘What foolhardiness’ they let out a collective gasp. First, The Economist, followed by Time magazine and now The Guardian, Narendra Modi, who was given a standing ovation in the US Congress, has no cheerleaders left in the international media.
