INCREASING RESISTANCE TO ANTIBIOTICS SERIOUSLY IMPACTING HEALTHCARE

BOTH THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY AND THE GOVERNMENT HAVE TO BE VIGILANT
Dr Arun Mitra - 2024-01-30 12:02
The Union Health Ministry has asked the doctors to judiciously use the antibiotics and give reason whenever using them. Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Atul Goel has said that the doctors must specify “indication, reason and justification while prescribing antimicrobials”. This is in the backdrop of increasing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) which has reached alarming levels globally. Antimicrobial resistance means the bacteria or fungi causing the infection are resistant to the antibiotic or antifungal treatment. Therefore if remedial steps are not taken now, it would be difficult to control infections in future.

CONGRESS-TMC SPAT IN BENGAL HAS ITS ORIGIN IN OLD MAMATA-ADHIR PERSONAL RIVALRY

KHARGE, RAHUL STILL PURSUING MAMATA FOR AGREEING TO A COMPOSITE SEAT SHARING
Tirthankar Mitra - 2024-01-30 10:48
A fragile peace prevails between Congress and Trinamool Congress even as Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) has restarted in West Bengal coinciding with TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee's north Bengal tour, both likely to criss cross almost the same turf. After her fusillades against the Congress leadership for not informing her beforehand about the BJNY, the TMC chief is holding her fire following conciliatory moves from Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

INDIAN NAVY NEEDS BIG EXPANSION TO FACE OFF CHINESE MARITIME HOSTILITY

THE LATEST MALDIVES-CHINA NAVAL PACT POSES THREAT TO LITTORAL INDIA
Nantoo Banerjee - 2024-01-29 12:09
The growing Chinese People’s Liberation Army-Navy action agenda sending so-called research vessels to ports in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and now the Maldives poses a major maritime threat to India and its littoral region. The PLA-Navy’s tie-ups with India’s neighbouring countries are all bilateral. The government of India may be upset with the actions of its sovereign neighbours, but it can do little to prevent the PLA-Navy’s bilateral cooperation with countries in the region. What do these Chinese research vessels do in these ports? What are they researching.

NEW DELHI CAN USE ICJ ORDER TO PERSUADE TEL AVIV TO STOP KILLINGS OF PALESTINIANS
Nitya Chakraborty - 2024-01-29 12:06
The order issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on January 26 asking Israel to stop genocide of Palestine people is a development of major significance in the battle of the peace-loving people of the world demanding the end of the war between Israel and Palestine in Gaza. The nearly four-month-old conflict has expanded to other areas of West Asia involving Lebanon, Yemen and Iran.

NEITHER THE PRE-POLL, NOR THE POST-POLL GAME IS OVER FOR INDIA BLOC

NITISH’S EXIT IS A BIG JOLT, BUT OPPOSITION STILL CAN TAKE ON BJP JOINTLY
Dr. Gyan Pathak - 2024-01-29 12:03
Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar’s switching over again to join BJP after ditching INDIA Bloc has inspired two sets of reaction – first, BJP and NDA will have significant political gain as their leaders have claimed; secondly, it was a good riddance for INDIA bloc which would have greatly suffered with a leader having lost face and too much anti-incumbency, as TMC leader Mamata Banerjee believed. Both the claims seem to be too simplistic to be true in tremendously increased political complexity not only in Bihar but across the country. It seems just the beginning of the pre-poll political game which is likely to continue until the post-poll formation of the government.

NITISH KUMAR HAS GIVEN A BIG JOLT TO INDIA BUT HIS JD(U)’S FUTURE IS BLEAK

BJP MAY TOLERATE HIM TILL LOK SABHA POLLS BUT DUMP BEFORE 2025
Kalyani Shankar - 2024-01-29 12:00
On Sunday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar threw a bomb shell by leaving the ruling Mahagathbandhan in Bihar and returning to the N.D.A. coalition. He also quit the opposition coalition which he had built eight months ago. This dismantling of the bloc has dealt a significant blow to the I.N.D.I.A. bloc at the national level. They missed the slim chance of defeating the B.J.P. in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
