After a meeting of the finance ministers of the BRICS countries in Washington on September 22, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee observed that there is a chance of a currency war breaking out if the global economic crisis deepens. He may be somewhat behind the market in his observation. It is ironical that the currencies of the BRICS countries, let alone others, have already moved in wide banks between August 1 and September 21.
