LOSING FDI DEBATE CAN BE A BLOW TO UPA

CAN ALLIES BAIL OUT CONGRESS ONCE AGAIN?
Kalyani Shankar - 2012-11-29 11:43
All is well that ends well, now that the Parliament is likely to function after the government has agreed for voting on the FDI in retail. That offer came because the government had successfully shepherded its friends and allies to support if there was a vote. The UPA needs both the BSP and the SP safely across the halfway mark at 273. But the challenge came from the DMK, its ally. Though the government will not fall if it loses a discussion-and-vote in Parliament, it will certainly be an embarrassment.

Let our politicians, television anchors and film stars fall over one another in lavishing praise on Bal Thackeray for his personal candour, political shrewdness, acute tactical sense, whatever. Let more people join Mr LK Advani in bemoaning the departure of a man they regard as a great patriot.

RSS BLUNDERED IN CHOOSING GADKARI

SAFFRONITES’ BANE MIGHT BE BOON FOR CONGRESS
Amulya Ganguli - 2012-11-27 10:55
The last two nominees of the RSS for the BJP president’s post – Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari – have proved disastrous for the party, with Gadkari’s tenure being even more ill-starred than that of his predecessor. If Rajnath Singh’s final act as party chief was the expulsion of Jaswant Singh for his laudatory book on Jinnah – the writer subsequently found his way back into the party – Gadkari’s may well be his own ignominious exit.
