New Delhi: Mr B Muthuraman, Vice Chairman, Tata Steel Limited & Chairman, Tata International Ltd has been elected as the President of CII for the year 2011-12. He succeeds Mr Hari Bhartia as the new President.

For the first time since the world economic crisis erupted in 2008, IMF has more caution for robust emerging economies, the growth driving engine for global recovery –as 'new macro-economic risks” are building, such as over-heating, rise in food and commodity prices, especially oil, credit booms, and geo-political uncertainties. This has a clear message for India, which is among emerging market economies where a tightening of macro-economic policies is needed, it says in its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO).

The report of census 2011 shows that the drive for market-driven economic growth in last two decades has gravely distorted the economic, social and cultural profile of the population which is highly adverse for mass of the people and has helped only not more than 10 per cent of the upper crust population in India. This does not cover even the boastful claims by the so-called economic reformers. The Indian corporate business and foreign business had hoped that 30 per cent of the Indian population will be drawn to the market economy in a decade. This has not happened.

IMF Executive Board Considers Use of Gold Sale Profits of SDR 6.85 billion

Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have welcomed the opportunity to consider the use of the profits of SDR 6.85 billion from the Fund’s limited gold sale, which significantly exceed those assumed in April 2008 when agreement was reached on the key features of the new income model, and in July 2009 at the time of discussions on a financing package for the Fund’s concessional lending activities. Directors offered preliminary views on options for the use of profits above a price of US$935 per ounce—the average price required to generate resources for the endowment at the April 2008 assumed gold price and to implement the agreed strategy to use resources linked to gold sales as part of the 2009 concessional financing package.
