New Delhi: As per the Economic Survey tabled in the Lok Sabha, here today, by the Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the development process needs to continuously strive for broad-based improvement in the standard of living and quality of life of the people through an inclusive development strategy that focuses on both income and non-income dimensions.

New Delhi: A number of programmes are being run concurrently by the Government to address the twin issues of unemployment and poverty alleviation. The Economic Survey tabled in the Lok Sabha here today by Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee states that there is a need for better convergence of the schemes to avoid duplication and leakages and to ensure that the fruits of the schemes reach the targeted beneficiaries.

New Delhi: As per the Economic Survey tabled in the Lok Sabha here today by Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee, on the employment front, the country has been able to withstand the adverse impact of the global crisis and generate employment since July 2009 as reported in the quarterly quick employment surveys conducted by the Labour Bureau. An upward trend in employment has been continuously observed since July 2009. During the quarter July to September, 2010, overall employment increased by 4.35 lakhs.

New Delhi: A sharp price in food price inflation has been a major cause of concern of our economy during 2010-11, however, high inflation in food article is not unique to India. The Economic Survey tabled today in the Lok Sabha by the Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee, says that the whole sale price index (WPI) of food inflation rose to 13.6% in December 2010 on account of unfavourable agricultural supply conditions coupled with the waning of base effects. There are signs of food and fuel price increases spilling over into general inflation.

New Delhi: “Things are looking bright in the current year with a relative good monsoon and the agriculture sector is expected to grow at 5.4% as per the 2010-11 advance estimates (AE) . There is a marked improvement in the gross capital formation (GCF) also in agriculture sector.” This has been observed by the Economic Survey presented in the Lok Sabha today by the Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

New Delhi: Recalling the pioneer work by agriculture scientists and farmers to achieve a breakthrough in the agriculture sector in the 1960s, the Survey observes that the country has not witnessed any big technological breakthrough in agriculture since then. The food safety net for each and every of the over a billion citizens requires enhanced agriculture production and productivity in the form of a Second Green Revolution.

New Delhi: The advance estimates (AE) of the Economic Survey 2010-11 put the growth rate of the services sector at 9.6 per cent. This is despite global deceleration in the sector. The sector had registered 10.1 per cent growth in 2009-10. The Survey presented by the Union Finance Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in the Parliament today states that the Indian economy remains the second fastest growing in the services growth with 8.9 per cent rate, behind China (10.5 per cent). An international comparison of the services sector shows that India compares well even with the developed countries in the top 12 countries with highest overall GDP.

New Delhi: The fiscal outcome in the first nine months of the current financial year remained broadly on the consolidation track charted by the Budget, says the Economic Survey presented by the Union Finance Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in the Parliament today.

New Delhi: The Economic Survey 2010-11 states that the infrastructure structure is a mixed bag of performance; some like telecommunications have done exceedingly well and in some others there have been less than targeted achievement. During 2007-08 to 2009-10, capacity addition is lower than the target in power, roads National Highways Developmant Project (NHDP), new railway lines and doubling of railway lines.

New Delhi: The Economic Survey 2010-11 has said that rapid reduction of the infrastructure deficit was the key to competitiveness in an increasingly localized environment.
