Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland Excluded from Protected Area for Foreigners

New Delhi: Government has now decided to exclude the entire area of the States of Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland from the Protected Area regime notifiedunder the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order 1958, initially for a period of one year.

India’s External debt at End-September 2010 was US$ 295.8 billion

New Delhi: At end-September 2010, India’s external debt stock was US$ 295.8 billion reflecting an increase of 12.8 per cent over the level of US$ 262.3 billion at end-March 2010. The long-term debt increased by 9.5 per cent to US$ 229.8 billion, while short-term debt showed an increase of 25.8 per cent to US$ 66.0 billion.

The year 2010 proved to be a watershed in Indian life and politics. It raised the hitherto most troubling question of the extent of crony capitalism and exposed the massive corruption in the government with money playing role even in appointment of ministers in the union cabinet. It also rubbished the myth that the government holds the fulcrum on which Indian economy and life is supported. For the best part of the year, the government remained in limbo. And, for a very welcome surprise, it had little impact on Indian economy.

IMF Determines New Currency Amounts for SDR Valuation Basket

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced today the revised amounts for the four currencies that determine the value of the Special Drawing Right (SDR). Effective January 1, 2011, the value of the SDR will be the sum of the values of the following amounts of each currency:
U.S. dollar - 0.660
Euro - 0.423
Pound sterling -0.111
Japanese yen - 12.1

Integrated Action Plan for Select Tribal and Backward Districts approved

New Delhi: The Government has approved the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) for 60 Selected Tribal and Backward Districts .The scheme would be an additional central assistance (ACA), on 100% grant basis. To begin with IAP is proposed to be implemented with a block grant of Rs. 25 crore and Rs. 30 crore per district during 2010-11 and 2011-12 respectively for which the funds will be placed at the disposal of the Committee headed by the District Collector and consisting of the Superintendent of Police of the District and the District Forest Officer.
