Advance Estimates of National Income, 2010-11

New Delhi: The Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the advance estimates of national income at constant (2004-05) and current prices, for the financial year 2010-11.

New CPI to Be Released From 18th of Feberuary

New Delhi: The Central Statistics Office (CSO) of the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation announced that the new series of Consumer Price Index(CPI) numbers for Rural, Urban and Combined (Rural +Urban) on base 2010 ( January to December)=100 taking all segments of rural and urban population for the month of January, 2011 will be released by the Central Statistics Office for the States/UTs and all- India on 18th February, 2011.These indices will be available for five major groups namely Food, beverages and tobacco; Fuel and light; Housing; Clothing, bedding and footwear, and Miscellaneous.

Statisticians Must Gear Up to Counter New Challenges

New Delhi: Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Dr M.S. Gill today emphasized on the need for building a strong network among statisticians’ of Commonwealth countries to counter the challenges arising out of the emerging needs. Inaugurating the 15th Conference of the Common Wealth statisticians here today, he said the statisticians should gear up to meet the emerging challenges. He also released the statistical year book on the occasion.

India and Isle of Man Sign Tax Information Exchange Agreement

New Delhi: India and Isle of Man have signed a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) on 4th February, 2011 in London. The agreement has been signed by Shri Nalin Surie, High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom from Indian side and Hon. Anne Craine, MHK, Minister of the Treasury from Isle of Man side. This is the second TIEA being signed by India. First TIEA was signed by India with Bermuda in Delhi on 7th October, 2010.

Techniques of Improving Quality, Reliability and Productivity Can be Applied to Clean up Administration

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has said that the techniques of improving quality, reliability and productivity can be applied to clean up administration, improve reliability of public services and increase agricultural productivity. He said that Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) can play a lead role in these areas that can bring about a positive change for the nation at large. Shri Mukherjee was speaking at the inaugural function of the International Congress on International Congress on Productivity, Quality, Reliability, Optimisation and Modelling-ICPQROM-2011 organized by the ISI along with the other two premier organisations Quality Council of India and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), here today. The International Congress was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India.

They include minimum disturbance for long-billed vulture i.e. Girnari Giddh habitat, cafeteria for vultures, increase in height of two towers along the ropeway and cess on ticket turn-over revenue for conservation related activities.

States Asked to Take Up Effective Marketing Intervention to Check Prices of Essential Commodities

New Delhi: The Centre has asked the States to take up market intervention effectively and timely to check the prices of essential commodities. Addressing the meeting of Food Ministers of Northern States here today, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prof. K.V. Thomas said that the Centre is proposing a Scheme for market intervention with committed funds but State Government on their part should use the provisions of Essential Commodities Act and the Prevention of blackmarketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act to check malpractices either in PDS or in the open market. He said States should ensure adequate availability of stocks in the open market by reviewing the stocks limits of the commodities time to time.
