Socialism is a term that can mean many things to many people. But we never thought the word 'economic reform' which has been key to the great globalisation, will meet with a similar fate. When in US, the home of Washington Consensus', they talk of 'reform', they no more mean what our own reformers continue to chant in PMO and North Block. In America and Europe, they are struggling hard with a new set of 'reform bills' to reform the two-decade-old economic reform so that they could retrieve their economy from the damages of 2008's financial tsunami. But our reformers continue to recite the old mantra failed everywhere.

IMF Approves US$13.3 Million Arrangement for Grenada

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today approved Grenada's request for a new three-year arrangement under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF), totaling SDR 8.775 million (about US$13.3 million). Approval of the program makes an initial disbursement of SDR 1.275 million (about US$1.9 million) available immediately.

The Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have observed that the global downturn had led to a marked decline in St. Lucia's economic activity. The economy is recently showing welcome signs of an emerging recovery, although downside risks remain given the continued dependence on tourism. While the expansionary fiscal policy has helped to mitigate the adverse impact of the global crisis and protect the most vulnerable segments of the population, it has raised the fiscal deficit and public debt ratios significantly.
