The Zambian economy has been holding up well, despite the sharp decline in copper prices in 2008 and early 2009. Growth exceeded 6 percent in 2009, boosted by a significant increase in copper output, a bumper crop, and continued strong construction activity. Inflation has been below 10 percent since December 2009, helped by the bumper crop.

New Delhi: The Public Distribution System (Control) Order, 2001 mandates the State/UT Governments to issue distinctive ration cards to Above Poverty Line (APL), Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families and to conduct periodical review and checking of ration cards, to weed out ineligible and bogus ration cards and bogus units in the ration cards.

New Delhi: A three member team has enquired into issue of violation of the provisions of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, in Orissa. It enquired impact of a project on Tribal Rights and Wildlife conservation in the case of diversion of 660.749 ha of forest land for mining of Bauxite ore in Lanjigarh Bauxite Reserve in favour of Orissa Mining Corporation in Kalahandi and Rayagade districts. The team had two officials and one non-official member. The report is awaited.

Besides the publication of a guidance booklet on Marriages to Overseas Indians, distribution of multi-lingual pamphlets, seminars, scrolls on TV etc., a Scheme has been launched to provide legal/counseling services to Indian women deserted by their overseas Indian spouses through Indian Missions abroad.
