Liberia: economic growth is expected to pick up in 2010

The [economic] crisis has adversely affected Liberia, resulting in a drop in exports and investment as well as some job losses. However, with an improving external environment, economic growth is expected to pick up in 2010 and inflation to moderate. The medium-term economic outlook remains positive, particularly in the mining and commercial agriculture sectors.

Government spending has been reduced in a durable way, while the fiscal deficit target was increased to 3.9 percent of GDP in 2009 to avoid exacerbating the economic contraction.

The Corps of Signals is now 100 years old

On 15 Feb 2010, the Corps of Signals will enter 100th year of its odyssey in its role as Communicators for the Defence Forces. It was the historic event of raising of 31st and the 32nd Divisional Signal Companies, the first Signal Units, at Fatehgarh on 15 Feb 1911 that marked the raising of Corps of Signals. The motto of the Corps is “Teevra Chaukas” i.e. “Swift and Secure” and its emblem depicts the figure of “Mercury” the Roman version of “Hermes”, the messenger of Gods in Greek mythology.

New Delhi: The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed agreement for US$ 60.3 million loan for first tranche under ADB's multitranche financing facility (MFF) for Assam Power Sector Enhancement Investment Program at Guwahati, Assam, today. ADB will provide 200 million USD to Govt. of India in three trenches of 60.3 USD million, 89.7 million USD and 50 million.
