The drug manufacturers and marketers in India have admitted that they 'induce' medical practitioners with attractive freebies for prescribing their products to patients and hospital administration. They have told the government that they would formulate and follow a 'code of ethics' with regard to the offering of inducements to doctors, who act as an indirect delivery link for prescription drugs between the industry and end-consumers, the patients or the ailing public.
