HRD Ministry Finalizes New Scheme for Interest Subsidy for Education Loans

New Delhi: Ministry of Human Resource Development has finalized the modalities for implementation of a new Central Scheme to provide full interest subsidy during the period of moratorium on educational loans for students belonging to economically weaker sections (with parental family income from all sources of less than Rs.4.5 lakh annually) from scheduled banks under the Educational Loan Scheme of the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) for pursuing courses of studies in professional/technical streams from recognized institutions in India.

Health Ministry Gets Strict on Artificial Ripening of Fruits

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has asked the state authorities to keep a strict vigil on use of carbide gas for ripening of fruits. Use of carbide gas for ripening of fruits is prohibited under Rule 44 AA of Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules 1955.

IMF Approves US$6.55 Million Disbursement to Liberia

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today approved the fourth review of Liberia's economic performance under its Extended Credit Facility (ECF) (formerly Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility) arrangement. The approval enables Liberia to draw an amount equivalent to SDR 4.44 million (US$6.55 million) immediately, bringing total disbursements under the arrangement to an amount equivalent to SDR 230.14 million (US$339.25 million). The SDR 239.02 million (about US$352 million) ECF arrangement for Liberia was approved by the Executive Board on March 14, 2008.
