K Raveendran - 2023-05-24 13:15
The abrupt announcement by RBI, withdrawing all Rs 2,000 notes from circulation, seems to have much more than what meets the eye. Going by the explanations provided so far, it is increasingly clear that there is plenty of room for the regulator to be more forthcoming on the decision.

INDIAN ECONOMY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CLOSE ITS GAP WITH CHINA AT A FASTER PACE

EXPERTS HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT CHINA’S PRESENT GDP FIGURE, PUTTING IT AT MUCH LOWER LEVEL
K R Sudhaman - 2023-05-24 13:12
United Nations declared in Mid-April this year that India has become the most populous country overtaking China at 1.43 billion. Can it do the same with regard to GDP to become second largest economy in the world? On the face of it, the proposition seems difficult in the next few decades as China is the second largest economy in the world at over $18.5 trillion as against United States’ nearly $25.5 trillion. There have however been suspicion for quite some time that Chinese figures are exaggerated and the size of its economy is not as big as it is made out to be. If this is true, it is within realms of reality that India overtakes Chinese economy in the foreseeable future.

INDIA AND BANGLADESH FOCUSING ON MAJOR EXPANSION OF RAIL-CONNECTIVITY

BIG JOB OPPORTUNITIES TO OPEN UP AS PROPOSED LINK PROJECTS TAKE SHAPE
Ashis Biswas - 2023-05-24 13:00
Improved railway connectivity between India and Bangladesh should raise levels of bilateral passenger and cargo traffic significantly, and catalyse major economic growth in the years ahead. While both countries have revived operations on some of the old BG/MG (Broad gauge and Metre gauge) lines that were functional in undivided Bengal before 1947, economists feel that much more needs to be done to strengthen/upgrade the existing network in Bangladesh.

LESSER-KNOWN ISLAMIC JIHAD EMERGING AS MOST SERIOUS THREAT FROM GAZA

LEAVES HAMAS BEHIND IN FIREPOWER, STRENGTH TO TARGET TEL AVIV
Manish Rai - 2023-05-24 12:36
The ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) has taken effect in the Gaza Strip after days of cross-border fighting. The confrontation left at least 33 Palestinians dead in Gaza and at least two people in Israel. But most importantly in the Israeli military’s Operation named “Shield and Arrow” six PIJ commanders were killed. The main objective of the Israeli operation was to erode the operational capabilities of the group by targeting its ground commanders. In retaliation for the airstrikes, Islamic Jihad fired around 1,000 rockets at Israel.

A new chapter in the modern history of the Middle East is beginning, and what’s most significant about it is the dwindling influence of the United States.

2024 PRESIDENTIAL POLL IN US MAY TURN INTO A REFERENDUM ON DONALD TRUMP

AMERICANS ARE UNEASY WITH TWO OLD CONTENDERS BUT BIDEN HAS AN EDGE
Debabrata Biswas - 2023-05-23 13:07
A 2024 presidential election featuring president Joe Biden against former president Donald Trump would be a “rematch from hell" - former Republican congressman Will Hard said - "The reality is two third Americans want somebody else". There's evidence to support Hard's argument that another presidential election featuring Biden and Trump is unpopular among most Americans, Democrats or Republicans, according to recent polls. But right now, unfortunately, both the candidates are polling well ahead of the others in their respective party's field and a rematch seems quite possible.
