INDEBTEDNESS AND JOBLESSNESS DRIVING PEOPLE TO EXTREME MEANS
Nitya Chakraborty - 2021-10-16 13:38
I have just finished seeing the nine episode South Korean social drama ‘Squid Game” released in Netflix on September 17 this year. Already it has become the biggest hit of Netflix productions in 90 countries covering 111 million viewers. My experience of viewing the film has been mesmerising. In recent months, I have seen lot of foreign films in streaming platforms, but I can never recall any such impact.

A POLITICAL CHURNING

Vijay Sanghvi - 2021-10-16 11:39
Most people in the world were under the belief of Indians being most religious given number of temples running in thousands and number of gods and deities running in millions. The Indian Prime Minister proved their error. Indians are no different humans on issues of self survival. NaMo imposed, without taking his cabinet and party colleagues in confidence, the lock down on all public activities as a strategy to fight the oncoming corona pandemic. All social, personal, cultural and economic activities were brought in the purview but also all religious activities, rites and festivals were enveloped but all places of worship were locked even to entrance.

Next month the NaMo regime will complete first half of his second term. It calls for review of his achievement in seven and half years. Even before you put the question his fan club insists for an answer what previous regimes did in 67 years of the post independence era? They jump in a glee the moment you point out that the proportion of population around the poverty lane got reduced to a twenty from 70 percent.

UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBER IN INDIA IS MUCH MORE THAN OFFICIAL DATA SHOW

HIGH GDP GROWTH DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY LEAD TO COMMENSURATE JOB ADDITION
Prabhat Patnaik - 2021-10-14 10:29
Unlike in the advanced capitalist countries, a reduction in employment opportunities in India takes the form not of a larger proportion of the work-force being shut out of employment, but of almost everyone having lesser number of days of work. This is a reflection of the fact that only a tiny segment of the work-force is employed on a full-time basis. Most are either self-employed, like peasants or shop-keepers, where many more or fewer family-members can share a given amount of work; or are causal workers who may get work on a given day but not on another. The same number of persons in other words gets more or less work; unemployment can be said to have fallen in the former and risen in the latter case. There is no close correspondence between the magnitude of work and the number of persons working. The question arises: how can we measure unemployment trends in such a situation?

AIR INDIA SALE TO TATAS IS A MOCKERY OF MODI’S ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT SLOGAN

NATIONAL TREASURES ARE BEING GIVEN OVER TO PRIVATE SECTOR ONE BY ONE
Binoy Viswam - 2021-10-14 10:26
Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat has earned one more feather in its crown. India’s national air carrier, Air India has been handed over to a private corporate, the Tata’s. Thus, the frenzied moves to sell off Air India have been successfully completed. Air India and its 125 aircrafts are now handed over to the Tata’s. Air routes operated to 103 destinations in more than 30 countries are also given to the new owners. More than 100 domestic routes to 58 centres are also surrendered. The Air traffic industry parking slots are considered most precious. Air India was having 4400 parking slots in domestic services and 1800 of them for international services in various airports inside the country. It has controlled over 900 slots in multiple international airports including New York, London, Frankfurt and Paris.
