With Assam and other states in the Northeast all set to expand rubber cultivation in a major way during the next five years, India should be able to reduce substantially its dependence on imports. Encouraged by a slight decrease in imports between 2018 and 2020, experts think it should not be too difficult to increase the production of natural rubber in the short term.

Hit by Covid 19, India is in the dichotomy of overdependence on imports for its emerging industries. They are import intensive industries. Rapid growth in electronic industries, including mobile phone manufacturing, telecommunication equipment, automobile and digital economy led India becoming overdependent on imports. China has been the main stakeholder in supply chain for parts, components and capital equipment. About 38-39 percent of electronic industries, including mobile phones and its parts, telecommunication equipment and parts, auto parts and over 80 percent of drug intermediates for pharmaceutical industries are imported from China. Arguments and counter-arguments sparked against the overdependence on China in the wake of supply chain disruption due to pandemic and rise in political tension, owing to border conflicts.

The seventh Trade Policy Review of India by WTO reveals that the country has become the most attractive destination as a dumpyard of the world, but not the most attractive destination for investment that the country was aiming at. Additionally, the frequent changes made by the government in the policies had created uncertainties in trade. The period under review covered the period after June 2015 corresponding to the period of Modi rule in the country.

App based DigiLocker system platform, set up by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, under the DigiLocker Rules, 2016 as amended in 2017, in terms of the Information Technology Act, 2000, intends to enable people to store all their utility documents in digitized format for consumption of such documents by public and private agencies while delivering services to the citizens. DigiLocker Rules provide legal sanctity to all such documents as stored in in this platform.

India will have to face the major problems of finding employment for educated young even if Indian economic growth is accelerated to ten percent in the remaining time o the current NaMo term. The educated young looking for employment commensurate to their education, skills and abilities will be swelling as 96 per cent of children are regularly attending schools. Even though large proportion of them is dropping off after the primary education, still number of graduates and undergraduates will be enormous and jobs generation is not and cannot be adequate to absorb them.
