Alsatian

Alsatian is a breed of dog, also known as German Shepherd. This large-sized working dog derives its name from its origin in Germany. It is worth mentioning that Alsace (from which the word Alsatian is derived) is the region of its origin which was originally in Germany but came under French rule in 1648, but was again restored to Germany after the Franco-German war in 1870-71. After World War I, Alsace is again part of France. However, the name of this dog remained 'German Shepherd'.

The word Alsatian also refers to someone of something of or relating to Alsace region.
