Anastomosis

Anastomosis is a technical term for a cross-connection between adjacent parts of a network, such as fibres, tubes, or channels.

When this word is used as a term in medicine, it refers to the connection surgically made between adjacent parts of the body, such as blood vessels, parts of the intestine etc. The surgery in which such a connection is made is also known as anastomosis.
