Asmus Jakob Carstens
Asmus Jakob Carstens (1754-1798) was a Danish-German artist, born in Sleswig. On the appearance of his great picture, "The Fall of the Angels," rose at once into fame. He was admitted to the Berlin Academy. Afterwards, he studied the masters at Rome. When returned, he brought back to Germany a taste for art. He was the means of reviving it. He treated classical subjects. He quarrelled the Academy. He died in poverty at Rome.Nearby pages
