Athanase Coquerel

Athanase Coquerel (1820-1875), full name Athanase Josué Coquerel, was a French Protestant pastor, son of Athanase Coquerel (1795-1858), born at Amsterdam. He was celebrated for his liberal and tolerant views, too much so for François Pierre Guillaume Guizot (1787 – 1874), a French historian, orator and statesman. He edited Voltaire's letters on toleration. His chief works included "Jean Calas et sa Famille".
