Augsburg Confession

'Augsburg Confession' is a term that denotes a document containing a statement of the Lutheran position. It was drawn up mainly by Melanchthon in name of the Lutheran reformers, headed by the Elector of Saxony. The statement was approved by Luther before being presented to the Emperor Charles V at Augsburg on June 25, 1530. Since the document was presented at Augsburg is called Augsburg Confession. It was an statement of their own doctrines, and of the doctrines of the Church of Rome, against which they protested.
