Azad Kashmir

'Azad Kashmir' , literally 'Free Kashmir' is a term used by Pakistan for the region that India calls Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Formerly, it was part of Kashmir in India, but now under Pakistan as an autonomous state. Muzaffarabad is its administrative headquarters town. Pakistan established it in 1949. India says that the region is theirs on the basis of accession of Kashmir to India, which was a princely state at the time of partition of India and Pakistan.
