Ball
Ball is a solid or hollow sphere. A ball-shaped object or ovoid is also called a ball. In games, such as football or baseball, the ball is the object that is kicked, thrown, or hit. Ball is also the short form of baseball, in which a pitch delivered outside the strike zone that the batter does not attempt to hit is also called a ball. A pass of a ball in sports from one player to another is also a ball, such as a long ball.Formerly, a solid nonexplosive missile for a firearm was called ball, but now it is a historical term.
The ball of the foot (full phrase) is the rounded protuberant part of the foot at the base of the big toe, while the ball of the thumb (full phrase) is the corresponding part of the hand at the base of the thumb. Balls is also a vulgar slang for testicles.
A nonsense or rubbish often said to express strong disagreement is also called a ball, and also the courage or nerve. 'A ball of fire' is a person full of energy and enthusiasm.
Ball is also a formal social gathering organised for dancing. Having a ball is thus having a lot of fun or enjoyment.
