Hemkund Sahib is in Uttaranchal state of India. It is situated at about 20 kms from Govindghat. It is an important religious place for Sikhs. It is said the 10th Guru of this community, Guru Govind Singh had come here for some time to meditate. There is a Gurudwara. Laxman Mandir is also famous and a place of religious importance for Hindus. Moreover, there is a natural lake which is called Hemkund and from which the place derives its name. It is a wonderful lake which turns into a field in winters when its water turns into ice. Literally speaking, Him means ice and kund means lake. That is why this lake of ice is called Hemkund.
