The communal situation across India remained under control during the calendar year ending 2010, according to official sources in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Yet, 658 communal incidents took place in the country during 2010 in which 111 persons lost their lives and 1,971 persons were injured. During the corresponding period in 2009, there were 791 communal incidents in the country in which 119 persons were killed and 2,342 persons were injured.
