It now appears that the ruling Awami League (AL) in Bangladesh has made a mess of political calculations. It received the overwhelming three-fourth majority in the last general election back in 2008 and trial of war criminals i.e. Bangladeshi collaborators of Pakistan Army in 1971 was high on their election manifesto. But they failed to complete the trial and resultant execution of verdict process in time.

It was time for the stock market to strike back. Last Monday, soon after it opened in the aftermath of the announcement of the complete election results and complete rout of Congress in four Hindi heartland states, the market gave a fitting reply to Congress bigwigs’ recent tirade against foreign investors’ exuberance over the possibility of BJP forming the next government, by pumping in large investments in Indian stocks resultantly pushing up the market to new highs and reiterating foreign investors’ support for Narendra Modi, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

The 2013 state elections in the North have delivered a severe drubbing to the Congress such that its leaders are now left struggling what to make of future for the survival of the grand old party, in a new demanding era of accountable governance, rid of corruption and cronyism, stable prices, and effective delivery of services. It would be no longer a smooth ride in the South as well.

The year 2013 began with the Congress electing Rahul Gandhi as its vice-president in Jaipur with great hopes. The year ended with the snide remarks ‘Rahul Nahi Chala (Rahul did not click)’ from the senior Congressmen who feel sidelined. Manmohan Singh government is also yet another target. There is also a view that Congress president Sonia Gandhi, should take over the command once again.

New Delhi: What is hindering bilateral relationship between India and Turkey is the lack of awareness about each other’s political, social and cultural backgrounds. It is for this reason bilateral trade and investment has not reached the desired levels, according to the Turkish envoy to India, Dr Burak Akcapar.

No party has got majority and there can be no government without the combination of two of the three parties of Delhi. Aam Adami Party of Arvind Kejriwal is not ready to shake hands with any of the two for facilitating the government formation. In the election, it was Congress which was defeated convincingly, but it is BJP, which is the most dejected and anxious party after the result.
