WASHINGTON – Global food prices remain high and volatile, hitting the poorest countries hardest and adding to the strains facing the global economy, according to the World Bank Group’s new Food Price Watch released ahead of the G-20 Summit in Cannes, France. While the Bank’s food price index has dropped 5 percent from its February 2011 peak and dipped marginally in September by one percent, it remains 19 percent above its September 2010 levels.

New Delhi: Top fighter for the cause of protection of Indian languages, Rajkaran Singh in no more. He died of cardiac arrest on October 30th at his home at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. He was 57. It is a great loss of the cause of regional languages in India.

The government’s unhappiness with the media has undoubtedly been accentuated by the wide coverage of the anti-corruption movement. Hence, the proposal to set up a committee to regulate the media, which was dropped following protests.
