In total, 45 specific trade concerns were raised, including 16 new ones, at a meeting of the Technical Barriers to Trade Committee on 24-25 March 2011. Tobacco regulations to protect public health continued to be a central concern. While members were not challenging public health objectives, they argued that the design of such regulations could have an unnecessary negative impact on trade.

For the first time since the world economic crisis erupted in 2008, IMF has more caution for robust emerging economies, the growth driving engine for global recovery –as 'new macro-economic risks” are building, such as over-heating, rise in food and commodity prices, especially oil, credit booms, and geo-political uncertainties. This has a clear message for India, which is among emerging market economies where a tightening of macro-economic policies is needed, it says in its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO).
