Anjan Roy - 2022-02-24 15:36
As Russian military moves into Ukraine, our familiar world vanishes. The world order returns to the point when Winston Churchill had said “an iron curtain” was falling across Europe. The single step of a Russian soldier in Ukraine brings back the Cold War dispensation in international affairs.

WILL SHASHI THAROOR TAKE UP IMRAN KHAN’S TV DEBATE CHALLENGE WITH MODI?

THE ERUDITE CONGRESS MP CAN OFFER A JAW JAW TO THE CRICKETER POLITICIAN
Sushil Kutty - 2022-02-24 11:25
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan must be wishing he hadn’t told Russia’s RT television network that he wanted a TV debate with Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. What must be striking to Imran Khan and his countrymen and countrywomen is that cricketer Khan’s wish elicited a reply not from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but from Thiruvananthapuram Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who spoke of “jaw–jaw” only to see Russia start “war-war.”

MODI’S PROGRAMMES ARE MANY BUT STILL FAILING TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR ALL

INSECURITY IN LIVELIHOOD HOUNDS MAJORITY OF INDIAN PEOPLE
Dr. Gyan Pathak - 2022-02-24 11:21
We have many food assistance programmes but not food for all, as the latest Hunger Watch Survey II has found. Food insecurity still hounds people at household level though India is self-sufficient in food at national level. The food assistance programmes that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been claiming time and again to be robust, have actually failed for millions, especially during the past two years of the pandemic.

TIME IS RIPE FOR REFORMING THE PROCESS OF APPOINTMENT OF GOVERNORS

TO START WITH, STATE LEGISLATURES CAN AMEND THE CONCERNED STATUTES
Prakash Karat - 2022-02-24 11:18
The Kerala government has written to the central government proposing amendments to the constitution to give powers to the state governments in the appointment or recall of governors. This has been done in response to the recommendations made by the Justice Punchhi Commission on reforms in centre-state relations. The stand taken by the Kerala government reflects the longstanding need felt for change in the role of the governor who, at present, is appointed by the centre and hence acts as an agent of the central government.

A LOT DEPENDS ON HOW SOON AMERICAN SUPPLIES CAN FILL THE GAP
K Raveendran - 2022-02-24 11:15
With the Russian invasion of Ukraine already playing out, it is clear that the war between US and allies on one side and Russia on the other would be fought not just at the military and economic levels, as already manifested by the western sanctions, but with another strategic weapon as well: energy.

PAKISTAN MEDIA AND CIVIL SOCIETY TAKE STRONG STAND AGAINST BLACK ORDINANCE

OPPOSITION PARTIES JOIN HANDS TO INTENSIFY STRUGGLE AGAINST IMRAN GOVT
Sankar Ray - 2022-02-24 10:31
The journalists’ community of Pakistan and opposition parties are on the same page in condemning the ordinance on amending The Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 and the Election Act by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf government describing the promulgation as a bid to “muzzle the freedom of expression” and “allowing ministers to use state resources for their election campaigns while in office”.

THE WAY SUPREME COURT CAVED-IN

M.Y.Siddiqui - 2022-02-24 04:42
People assumed that after the judgment in ADM Jabalpur case in mid 1970s, the Supreme Court of India (SCI) would be a great bulwark standing in support of liberties and rights of people, but increasingly in recent years especially since 2014 on issues of critical fundamental constitutional importance like the Kashmir issue, electoral bonds, Habeas Corpus, CAA, SCI has been refusing to hear such cases, kicking the can down the road presumably because the apex court senses the outcome could embarrass the government. It is worrying that SCI is ducking its duty on constitutional issues.
