Abu-l-Walid ibn-Rushd
Abu-l-Walid ibn-Rushd (1126-1198), full name Abu al-Walid Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Rushd, better known in the Latin West as Averroes, was a Spanish Arabic philosopher, jurist, and medical writer. He is known for his summaries and commentaries on the works of Aristotle. He defended original Aristotelian thought and repudiated the ideas of al-Ghazali. He was indicted for irreligiousity in 1195 and exiled. After that he was accorded a sinecure from an Islamic prince in Morocco, where he died.Wisdom & Quotes
