WASHINGTON, DC ─ The World Bank today approved two projects worth US$405 million to India, designed to promote environmentally friendly modes of urban transport, and to improve management and delivery of services in urban areas in the state of Andhra Pradesh (AP).

A study done by a consortium of geneticists from 10 Asian countries shows that Indian genetic diversity is the basis of other population in Asia. It says that over 50,000 years ago there was a first single stream entry of humans into India from Africa. From India the human population settled in South-East Asia and from there some of then moved to east and central Asia.

New Delhi: The Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Shri Murli Deora informed the Parliamentary Consultative Committee that the Oil Marketing Companies(OMCs) are projected to incur under-recoveries of Rs. 45478 crore on the four sensitive petroleum products (MS, HSD, Domestic LPG and PDS Kerosene) during 2009-10 based on the Refinery Gate Prices of the first fortnight of December 2009.

New Delhi: Human genetic diversity in Asia has been mapped for the first time by a group of over 90 scientists from the Human Genome Organisation's (HUGO's) Pan-Asian SNP Consortium. In the process it has not only mapped of genetic diversity in Asia but also traced the genetic origins of Asian populations.

1,02,951 small and micro enterprises sick

New Delhi: As per the data compiled by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from the scheduled commercial banks, the number of sick micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in the country has come down from 1,14,132 as at the end of March 2007 to 1,02,951 as at the end of March 2009. Information in respect of medium enterprises is not being collated by the RBI.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Board of Directors today approved a proposal to extend a $325 million guarantee for a 13-year syndicated loan of $342 million to state-owned Viet Nam Electricity, which will be used to fund urgent transmission and distribution improvements needed to meet rising power demand.
